New discussion forum and researchers collaboratory!

02-05-2006

From last week on the forum Nederlandse Volkstellingen is open for public. Log in and you can immediately participate in discussions on several subjects, which are included in the collaboratory for researchers. For example you can ask a question or share ideas about a subject. It is also possible to add a new subject. If you want to know how the forum works, take a look at User instructions (only in Dutch). [The discussion forum is removed, March 2007.]

The collaboratory is a virtual workplace that aims at supporting researchers in their analyses of census data. Researchers can share information on e.g. their research projects, publications and datasets.

Congress Life Courses in the 19th and 20th Century

Concluding congress of the NW0-Groot program 'Life courses in context'

The concluding congress of 'Life Courses in context' will take place on Friday April 11th, 2008. The meeting will be held at the International Institute for Social History (IISH) in Amsterdam. Funded by NWO-Groot, the last five years attempts have been made to reconstruct the life courses of about 40,000 Dutchmen born between 1863 and 1922. Data on aggregated level from 1859-1947, like population censuses and counts of labor force, were added to these data on individual level. Read more >>

Future of the project

Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) participates in the completion of the 1795-1971 Dutch Censuses project. The missing tables are being corrected and shall be added to the website in due time. DANS is recently involved in evaluation of the results of a digitization test of hand-written census tables from the archive of the Statistics Netherlands. Images of the tables from the census of 1947 have already been made available through this website. If the OCR processing of the scans will show good results DANS will start a large project of digitization of the hand-written tables of all the census years archived at the Statistics Netherlands.
